‘Ecorché-workshop’ with Maudie Brady at the Florence Academy of Art

Mitch Shea, director of the Sculpture Program at the Florence Academy of Art.

In the summer of 2021 I’ve had the privilege to attend the ‘Ecorché-workshop’ with Maudie Brady at the Florence Academy of Art. In four weeks we’ve build a figure in clay, starting with the skeleton and adding the muscles on top of this (on one side of the body).

What are the main proportions? What’s the big shape of certain forms like the skull, ribcage or pelvis? How can you locate certain muscles on the surface of the model? These questions all got answered.

Maudie has been a wonderful guide: making the information accessible not only in word but by demonstrating the process as well. Thanks for a great learning experience!
